DIVINE CROWNS – SERMON

PSALM 103; ROMANS 5

AUGUST 7, 2022

________________________

#1. WHAT IS A DIVINE CROWN?

Matthew 7:28-29 “When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 for he taught with real authority – quite unlike their teachers of religious law.”

Matthew 28:18 "And Jesus came and spoke to them saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and earth.”

John 13:3 "Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God."

#2. WHY ARE WE CROWNED?

Romans 5:21 "So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Romans 5:17 "For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ."

Revelation 5:9-10 “And they sang a new song with these words: “You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 And you have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth.”

#3. WITH WHAT ARE WE CROWNED?

Psalm 103:4b “Who CROWNS me with LOVE and TENDER MERCIES.”

Matthew 9:13 Jesus said to them, “Now go and learn the meaning of this scripture: I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.”

Psalm 25:6 "Remember, O Lord, your tender mercies and your loving kindness."

Psalm 40:11 "Do not withhold your tender mercies from me O Lord; let your lovingkindness and your truth continually preserve me."

Psalm 51:1 “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to your loving-kindness, according to the multitude of your tender mercies."

Mark 15:16 “Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall called Praetorium, and they called together the whole garrison, and they clothed Him with a purple robe, and they twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head and began to salute Him, “Hail, king of the Jews.” Then they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on him, and bowing the knee, they worshipped him. And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off him, put His own clothes on Him and led Him out to crucify Him.”
